Bently Nevada 3500/33-A01-B00 16-Channel Relay Module

Brand affiliation: Bently Nevada (now Baker Hughes). It belongs to the 3500 series TSI machinery protection system, a full-height rack card, base part number for ordering: 149992-01

  1. Model Code Explanation: 3500/33-A01-B00

3500: 3500 TSI machinery protection system

/33: 16-channel relay output module

A01: Segment A = output version; 01 = standard 16-channel SPDT relay output

B00: Segment B = certification option; 00 = no CSA/NRTL/C certification (B01 version with CSA certification)

Distinction: The 3500/32M is a 4-channel relay module. It differs in channel quantity and logic resources and cannot be directly interchanged.

  1. Core Technical Specifications
ItemSpecification
Number of Channels16 independent relays, SPDT dry contacts
Contact RatingResistive load: max. 2A @30VDC / 0.5A @125VAC; epoxy-sealed relays
Mounting Position3500 rack, any slot on the right side of the RIM rack interface. Multiple 3500/33 modules can be expanded within one rack
Operating Temperature-30℃ ~ +65℃ (control cabinet ambient)
Module Status IndicatorsOK LED, TX/RX communication LED, independent status LED for each of the 16 relays
Configuration Software3500 Rack Configuration software; System 1 can retrieve events
Logic TypesEach relay channel is independently configurable. Supports AND/OR logic, 2ooN voting, latch function and delay setting
Trigger SourcesAny monitoring card in the rack: Alert warning, Danger trip, Not OK module fault signals
Function DefinitionDoes not acquire sensor signals. Provides logic outputs only for interlocks, shutdowns and dry contact alarms to DCS
SILThe complete 3500 system has SIL2 certification (full architecture assessment required)
  1. Core Functions
  2. 16 independent programmable relays: Each channel can select its trigger source separately for dry-contact protection outputs such as shaft vibration, axial displacement, differential expansion and speed.
  3. Flexible voting logic: Supports 1-out-of-2, 2-out-of-2 and multi-channel voting to reduce false trip and fail-to-trip risks. Latch function is available with software-selectable reset modes.
  4. Relay delay configuration: Debounce delay can be set to filter transient spike alarms and prevent spurious operations.
  5. Module self-diagnostics: Card self-test, backplane communication fault and relay loop diagnostics. Faults are reported to the system event list.
  6. Event logging: Relay activation and module fault data are stored in the rack event log for post-fault root cause analysis.
  7. Typical Application Scenarios

TSI protection for steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, axial fans, generators and large pump sets; Petrochemical, thermal power and coal chemical industries.

Applications: Unit hazardous condition shutdown trip circuits, local audible & visual alarms, dry contact signal transmission to DCS/SIS and solenoid valve actuation.

  1. Installation & Configuration Guidelines
  2. Rack: Standard 19-inch 3500 rack with backplane communication. Hot-swap is supported (interlocks must be removed before operation).
  3. Wiring: Relays use dry contacts. Mixing high AC/DC power cables with intrinsically safe cables is strictly prohibited. Shielded cables are recommended separately for trip circuits.
  4. Configuration Procedure

Connect PC to the rack and launch Rack Configuration software to identify the rack.

Select the 3500/33 card, choose trigger source for each channel (e.g. Danger signal from 3500/42M vibration channel).

Configure logic: AND/OR, voting mode, latch and action delay.

Download configuration to rack, perform module self-test and simulate alarms to verify relay operation.

  1. Testing: Relay outputs can be forced in software to conduct on-site loop joint testing.
  2. Common Troubleshooting Checklist
  3. OK LED flashing at 1Hz: No valid configuration downloaded to the card → Re-download rack configuration and run self-test.
  4. Abnormal TX/RX flashing: Backplane communication fault. Inspect backplane and RIM module, re-seat the card.
  5. Relay does not actuate when alarm condition is met: Verify configuration logic, voting rules and delay parameters; force output to test relay hardware integrity.
  6. Relay actuates but no signal in external loop: Check terminal wiring, contact erosion and external loop power supply.
  7. Flash fault event reported: Module flash memory damaged; card replacement required.
  8. Alternative & Comparison within Series

Bently Nevada 3500/33-A01-B00 16-Channel Relay Module

3500/33-A01-B01: Identical hardware with CSA NRTL/C certification, commonly used for overseas projects

3500/32M: Only 4 relay channels, fewer points for small units

Spare part replacement note: Segment A and B of model number must match, and configuration needs to be re-downloaded.
