Typical Application Cases of IFM EVF566
EVF566 is an M12 A-coded 4-pin angled field-wirable socket. Core advantages: IP69K, EPDM sealing, silicone-free, 316L locking nut. Primarily designed for food & high-pressure washdown environments. Used for field-made sensor cables; angled design saves space and relieves cable bending stress.
Case 1: Beverage Filling Lines (PET bottles / carton filling)
Equipment: Fillers, capping machines, starwheel conveyors, bottle-bottom photoelectric detectors (IFM O5/O6 photoelectric sensors, II proximity sensors)
Pain Points: Dense stations; sensors mounted close to machine frames, straight connectors create heavy cable bending stress. Equipment undergoes daily CIP high-pressure washing; conventional connectors leak water and seals degrade. Coating processes forbid silicone (silicone causes pinholes in coatings).
Solution: Field cable assembly using EVF566. The 90° angle routes cable along machine frames and reduces repeated cable flexing. EPDM seal + IP69K withstand 80°C high-pressure hot water cleaning. Silicone-free material meets coating requirements.
Purpose: Digital signal transmission for proximity and photoelectric sensors; 4-pin supports IO-Link (24V power + signal).
Benefits: Spare part replacement on site without prefabricated cables, shortening downtime. Stainless steel nut resists cleaning chemical corrosion.
Case 2: Food Processing Lines (Meat / Bakery cutting & sorting conveyors)
Equipment: Belt conveyors, metal detectors, cutting stations, silo level detection
Operating Conditions: High humidity, food residue, periodic foam and high-pressure water cleaning; wide temperature fluctuation (-20~85℃)
Application: Level sensors, belt misalignment detectors, photoelectric sensors at metal detector inlets/outlets. Side-mounted on machine frames with limited installation space; angled M12 is the optimal choice.
Selection Reason: EVF566 EPDM is resistant to food cleaners. PA66 housing withstands washdown. Screw terminals allow fast on-site rewiring and adding/removing sensor points.
Case 3: Valve Manifolds & Pipeline Monitoring in Breweries
Equipment: Wort mashing, filtration pipelines, pneumatic valve position feedback sensors (IFM MVQ valve sensors), pipeline pressure/flow sensors
Operating Conditions: Damp steam environment, periodic in-place cleaning, heavy pipeline vibration
Solution: EVF566 field wiring at sensor cable outlets. Angled profile avoids interference with valve bodies and prevents connector impact damage. Gold-plated contacts resist oxidation in humid environments for stable transmission of valve switch status / IO-Link diagnostic signals.
O&M Advantage: Maintain only connector + cable inventory for valve manifold zones; reduce SKUs of different prefabricated cables.
Case 4: Packaging Automation (Carton Packaging, Palletizing Lines)
Equipment: Around palletizing robots, carton-in-place detection, pallet recognition proximity sensors, lift cylinder position sensors
Operating Conditions: Dust, continuous mechanical vibration, compact mounting space with side cable exit from sensors
Application: Digital sensors for PNP/NPN signals. EVF566 screw terminals resist vibration and prevent loose connections. Cable can be cut to required length on-site to avoid waste of fixed-length prefabricated cables.
Note: Usable in non-washdown environments, but EVF566 is preferred where high-pressure cleaning will be implemented later.
Case 5: Cleanroom Process Vessels in Pharmaceutical Plants
Equipment: Purified water tanks, batching tanks, level, flow and temperature sensors
Requirements: Silicone-free material to prevent product contamination; periodic SIP/CIP cleaning and high humidity
Application: 4-pin M12 IO-Link hygienic sensors. EVF566 silicone-free construction meets cleanroom specifications. 316L locking nut resists corrosive cleaning agents. IP68/IP69K withstands on-site washdown.
Case 6: General Automation Retrofit (Old Line Upgrade)
Scenario: Adding proximity / photoelectric sensors to legacy production lines. Fixed-length prefabricated cables rarely match site dimensions; scattered sensor points for small-batch wiring.
Pain Points: Procuring many different-length pre-made M12 cables is costly with long lead times.
Solution: Standardize EVF566 angled field connectors; cut cables to length on demand. Suitable for commissioning and later point adjustments. Angled design fits side mounting on frames and equipment walls to avoid excessive cable bending.
Application Selection Guide (EVF566 vs EVF565)
- EVF566: 90° angled → Frame sidewalls, confined spaces, beside valve bodies, side cable exit from sensors
- EVF565: Straight → Axial cable exit, ample available space
- Limitation: Not recommended under immersion of aromatic hydrocarbons or strong ketone solvents; EPDM seals will degrade.

IFM EVF566 (M12 A-coded 4-pin Angled Field-Wirable Socket) Installation Procedure
Precondition: Power OFF before work; cable OD φ3.5~6mm, conductor cross-section 0.25~1 mm²; flathead screwdriver recommended; torque wrench mandatory for food / production lines.
Step1: Disassemble Connector & Cable Preparation
- Disassemble the rear assembly of EVF566: unscrew 316L stainless steel locking nut, cable gland, EPDM sealing sleeve. Keep all components safe.
- Strip outer cable jacket: Remove outer sheath to ensure the outer jacket can be fully clamped by the rear sealing sleeve.
- Strip core insulation: Strip approx. 5mm insulation from each inner conductor. No fraying or broken copper strands allowed.
Note: For food washdown environments, use MPPE/PUR wash-resistant cables.
Step2: Thread Cable (Sequence Cannot Be Reversed)
Thread the cable through the rear components in order: Stainless steel locking nut → Cable gland → EPDM sealing sleeve, then feed into the wiring cavity of the angled housing.
Critical: Cable outer sheath must enter inside the EPDM seal. Only inner conductors enter terminal compartment. IP protection will fail if this rule is violated, leading to water ingress during high-pressure washing.
Step3: Terminate Conductors to Screw Terminals (4-pin A-code)
Standard M12 A-coded 4-pin pinout (EVF566 socket)
Pin1: Brown → DC24V+
Pin2: White → Spare I/O
Pin3: Blue → 0V/GND
Pin4: Black → Signal / IO-Link
- Loosen terminal screws and insert fully stripped copper conductors into terminal openings.
- Tighten terminal screws to clamp wires. No bare copper may protrude outside terminals (short-circuit risk).
- Gently pull each wire to verify secure clamping.
Do not over-tighten terminal screws to prevent thread stripping or damage to plastic base.
Step4: Reassemble Strain Relief & Sealing Assembly
- Push EPDM sealing sleeve fully into the rear of connector body.
- Screw in cable gland and tighten firmly. The sleeve clamps cable outer jacket to implement strain relief.
Strain relief is critical: Prevent cable pulling force from transferring directly to terminals, avoiding loose connections or wire breakage under vibration.
- Refit stainless steel locking nut.
Step5: Mate with Sensor M12 Male Plug and Tighten Thread
Mate EVF566 socket to sensor M12 male plug. Tightening torque: 0.6~1.2 N·m. Do not exceed the maximum torque rating of the mating sensor.
For food / high-pressure washdown applications, use torque wrench. General maintenance: hand tighten then 1/4 additional turn.
Never over-torque; risk of cracking sensor plastic housing.
Inspection: EPDM gasket intact, no offset, no dirt trapped on sealing surface.
Step6: Pre-Power Check
- Continuity test with multimeter: Verify correct pin-to-pin continuity, no short-circuit between pins and no short to ground.
- Visual inspection: Complete components, proper sealing, cable bend radius greater than minimum limit of the 90° elbow to avoid long-term fatigue failure.
- Confirm all screws are tight.
✅ Operation & Maintenance Guidelines (Critical for Food Lines)
- Confirm connector tightness before CIP cleaning. Avoid aromatic or ketone cleaning chemicals which degrade EPDM.
- Recheck thread torque periodically (every 3~6 months for high-vibration lines).
- Disassembly & re-assembly: Inspect EPDM gasket each time. Replace immediately if aged or deformed.
- Never pull the cable by gripping the connector body; always pull on the cable jacket.
❌ Common Mistakes (Causes Loss of IP69K Rating)
- Cable outer jacket not inserted into sealing sleeve; only thin conductors pass through seal.
- Frayed copper strands touching adjacent pins.
- Excessive torque cracking sensor threads or plastic housing.
- Gasket missing, trapped dust or debris on sealing face.
- Cable outer diameter outside φ3.5~6mm range; seal cannot clamp cable securely.
