- Abbreviated printed operating manual
❗ Not included: Power supply unit, Ethernet cables — must be ordered separately.
Typical Application Scenarios
Industrial field-bus network expansion for PLCs, servo drives and frequency converters
8-node industrial Ethernet star / line topologies inside control cabinets
Machine tools, packaging machinery, water treatment, material-handling equipment
Troubleshooting Guide
- Power LED off: Check DC 9-32 VDC supply polarity, terminal tightness and input voltage drop.
- Port LED off: Damaged / mis-wired cable; peer device unpowered; abnormal port negotiation (speed cannot be forced on this unit).
- Packet loss / poor throughput: Verify cable quality; use shielded industrial cables; ensure no condensation and temperature stays within -10~60 ℃.
Hard Constraints / Prohibited Operations:
Not for outdoor direct exposure; IP20 for cabinet-only installation.
Do not apply supply voltage exceeding 32 VDC.
No VLAN, QoS or ring-management functions; pure plug-and-play unmanaged switch.
Replacement Recommendations (OEM-Suggested)
- Direct functional replacement: FL SWITCH 1008N (2701473), 8-port 10/100 unmanaged DIN-rail switch. Pin-compatible and dimension-compatible; performance improved as drop-in substitute for obsolete 2891002.
- Domestic alternatives: Advantech EKI-2528, MOXA EDS-208A-T, 8-port unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches.
Phoenix Contact 2891002 (FL SWITCH SFNB 8TX) Performance
- Per-RJ45 port speed: 10 Mbps / 100 Mbps auto-negotiation (10/100Base-TX), max. 100 Mbit/s per port.
- Overall switching capacity:
Switching bandwidth: 1.6 Gbps (8 ports full-duplex: 8 × 100 Mbit/s ×2)
MAC address table size: 2048 MAC addresses
Forwarding rate: 1.19 Mpps
Note: This is a Fast-Ethernet (100 M) industrial switch; Gigabit (1000 Mbps) is not supported. Ports auto-negotiate 10 M or 100 M with peer devices; Auto-MDI/X auto-detects straight-through / crossover cables.
Phoenix Contact 2891002 (FL SWITCH SFNB 8TX) Mechanical Dimensions
Housing Dimensions (excluding protruding terminals)
| Item | Value |
| Width (W) | 50 mm (horizontal cabinet dimension for DIN‑rail mounting) |
| Height (H) | 110 mm (vertical dimension) |
| Depth (D) | 70 mm (depth measured from DIN‑rail mounting face forward) |
Additional Mounting Notes
- Power terminal protrusion: The upper green power plug extends forward approx. 8-10 mm. Reserve extra cabinet depth; recommended minimum installed depth ≥80 mm for cabinet layout.
- Weight: approx. 400 g (0.4 kg), aluminum housing.
- Mounting: Standard DIN-35 rail snap-in; front-panel cut-out mounting is not supported.
- Ingress protection: IP20; for control-cabinet installation only.
Cabinet Layout Clearance Recommendations
Left-right: Unit width 50 mm; maintain ≥10 mm clearance on both sides for cooling.
Top-bottom: Maintain ≥20 mm clearance above and below for ventilation.
Depth: With terminal protrusion considered, cabinet inner depth ≥80 mm.
Comparison with replacement FL SWITCH 1008N (2701473): identical 50 mm width, direct DIN-rail swap-out possible.
Phoenix Contact 2891002 (FL SWITCH SFNB 8TX) VLAN Capability
❌ 802.1Q tagged VLAN is not supported. No web / serial configuration interface; purely unmanaged switch.
Key Details
- Zero configurable features: No VLAN segmentation, port isolation, QoS, IGMP Snooping or ring redundancy. All ports belong to one single broadcast domain. Incoming VLAN-tagged frames are forwarded transparently without tag processing; tag filtering cannot be performed.
- Related PNE-suffixed model (Order-No. 1071800, FL SWITCH SFNB 8TX-PNE): only hardware-prioritized PROFINET / EtherNet/IP traffic; custom VLAN configuration remains unavailable.
Sourcing Guidance
If VLAN functionality is required: select Smart Managed / Managed switches, e.g. Phoenix Contact FL SWITCH SMCS 8TX-PN (2989103), supporting 802.1Q VLAN, QoS and IGMP Snooping.
Hardware-only replacement without VLAN needs: use FL SWITCH 1008N (2701473) — also unmanaged without VLAN support, mechanically drop-in compatible.
⚠️ Hard constraint: Do not deploy this switch in architectures requiring VLAN segmentation; broadcast storms will propagate to every port.
Phoenix Contact 2891002 (FL SWITCH SFNB 8TX) Stacking Capability
❌ Hardware stacking is not supported.
- This is an unmanaged switch. No dedicated stacking ports, no stacking ASIC, no stacking protocol. Multiple units cannot be logically grouped as one single logical device; no unified management IP; no stacking cables are applicable.
Definition of stacking: Multiple physical switches combined logically into one managed entity via dedicated ports / protocols. This device cannot perform stacking.
✅ Cascading over regular RJ45 ports is allowed
Multiple 2891002 units may be interconnected via standard Ethernet cables to expand port count for star or line topologies.
Each unit remains fully independent; all ports share one broadcast domain.
One RJ45 data port is consumed for each cascading link. There is no firmware-enforced cascading depth limit, but industrial practice recommends maximum 4 cascaded hops to limit latency and broadcast-storm risk.
Use shielded twisted-pair industrial cables, max. 100 m per segment. Auto-MDI/X accepts straight-through or crossover cables.
