Troublshooting Guide

1. No reading: Verify terminal unit model, Profibus DP communication, and channel configuration (mA or V)
2. Fluctuating signal: Single-ended design. Priority check shield grounding; avoid routing alongside power cables
3. Module without fault alarm but fixed reading: Check transmitter power supply and loop continuity

A single AI810 has fixed 8 hardware channels. No jumper, software setting or accessory can expand one AI810 to more than 8 canais.

Two Valid Expansion Methods within S800 I/O System

1. Add extra AI810 or other AI modules in the series

S800 I/O is distributed bus I/O. Multiple I/O stations and multiple AI810/AI815/AI830 modules on one backplane can be connected to a Profibus DP bus. Each module works independently with 8 canais, configured separately in Control Builder, total channels are cumulative.

2. Replace with higher-density modules

Most standard S800 AI modules are 8-channel; no 16-channel analog input module available in S800 range.

For HART: AI815 (also 8CH, HART capable)

For high noise & long cable runs: AI830 (8CH differential)

❌ Not Recommended Workarounds

Signal splitter / signal shunt: One transmitter signal split into two AI channels. Readings are identical, no new measurement point, accuracy degraded. Not acceptable for formal DCS application.

TU terminal units are only for wiring, no channel expansion function, only signal transfer and isolation.

Notas Suplementares

Channel mode (mA / V) is changed only by software configuration, channel count remains unchanged. Hot swap and online configuration apply per module and cannot increase channel quantity.
