Banner SBFX1 Fiber Optic Scanner Module (MULTI-BEAM Series)

Note:SBFX1 is only a scanner block. It does NOT include power module or output module and cannot be powered-up independently. A complete sensor system requires a Power Block plus a Logic Module.

Part Number: 16652, 940 nm infrared light source, high excess-gain fiber amplifier block, supports through-beam and diffuse fiber detection.

Operating Principle & Configuration Instructions

  1. SBFX1 has no built-in power supply and no output. Complete 3-piece modular assembly:

SBFX1: Scanner block (light transmit/receive + amplification)

Power Block: Provides AC/DC power supply

Logic Module: Select light-on/dark-on, timing, NPN/PNP/relay output

  1. Fiber Wiring:

Diffuse mode: Connect one bifurcated fiber

Through-beam mode: Connect two separate fibers (one transmit, one receive)

  1. Benefits: High excess gain. Stable performance under harsh conditions, high fiber attenuation and small-bundle fiber applications; well-suited for dusty, oily industrial environments.

Note: For long-range through-beam applications, Banner officially recommends separate SBEXF (transmit) + SBRXF1 (receive) scanner blocks. SBFX1 is not recommended for extra-long through-beam detection.

Replacement Options

The original SBFX1 belongs to the legacy Multi-Beam modular series and is phasing out in some supply channels.

Modern Banner drop-in alternatives: DF-G3, DF-G2 all-in-one fiber amplifiers. No stacked power/logic modules required for simpler wiring and setup.

Troubleshooting Guide

  1. AID red LED off: Poor fiber connection, broken fiber, or Power Block not installed.
  2. LED solid ON but no output: Verify Power Block and Logic Module configuration; check light-on / dark-on setting.
  3. Dim flickering LED: Excessive fiber attenuation or dirty fiber end-faces. Clean fiber tips first.
  4. For low-temperature installations, confirm temperature rating for the entire assembly including the Power Block.
