🛠️ Aplicaciones típicas
Short-circuit protection for semiconductor devices: DC bus of frequency converters, rectifiers, arrancadores suaves, photovoltaic/energy storage DC circuits, convertidores de potencia. Protects IGBTs and thyristors. Extremely fast current limiting to reduce the let-through energy of power devices.
🔧 Matching Fuse Holder
JM70100 finger-safe fuse holder, compatible with FWP series fuses of 22×58 size. A microswitch can be fitted to capture striker signals and upload melting fault alarms.
⚠️ Selección & Notas de reemplazo
- Distinguish Fa / F: Fa with striker; F without striker. Do not mix holders and alarm circuits.
- DC Circuits: The striker Fa variant is limited to 500Vdc. For DC above 500Vdc, use FWP-25A22F (no striker).
- Replacement must adopt aR high-speed fuses of equivalent rating. Ordinary gG/gL distribution fuses are not allowed. Their slow melting speed cannot protect power semiconductors.
- Instalación: Cylindrical ferrule type, clamped at both ends. Tightening torque shall follow holder manual to avoid overheating from poor contact.

- Troubleshooting Checklist for Repeated Blowing of FWP-25A22Fa (aR High-Speed Semiconductor Fuse)
Condición previa: Do not install a new fuse and power on immediately after blowing. Cut off power, verify zero voltage and locate root cause before replacement. Never increase the fuse rated current arbitrarily.
1) Inspección visual (Power OFF)
- Fuse body: Check ceramic tube for cracking, blackening or arc spray marks
Crack / severe arc burn → Hard short circuit (IGBT/rectifier breakdown, busbar short-circuit)
Only element melted with intact housing → Overload, pulse fatigue or contact overheating
- End cap & fuse holder: Check end cap for blackening/oxidation; check holder clips for looseness, ablation or plastic discoloration
- Striker status: For Fa striker version, verify whether striker pops out and whether microswitch is stuck
Insufficient spring force of holder clips or oxidized terminals raises contact resistance and causes continuous overheating, leading to unwarranted nuisance blowing.
2) Electrical Measurement (Power OFF & Discharge! Fully discharge DC bus capacitors)
- Continuity test with multimeter: Infinite resistance = blown; near 0Ω = healthy; high resistance = poor contact
- Insulation resistance test with megger:
Insulation between DC bus positive/negative and earth
Adelante & reverse check of power devices (IGBT/thyristor) to identify breakdown short-circuit
- DC bus capacitor inspection: Abultado, fuga, capacitance degradation or capacitor breakdown are the most common causes on the DC side of converters & inversores
- Verify actual operating current in circuit: Use clamp meter to monitor steady-state current and inrush surge at power-up
3) Fault Localization by Fuse Blowing Timing
✅ Fuse blows immediately at power-up
Most likely hard short-circuit: IGBT module breakdown, damaged rectifier bridge, positive-negative bus short, capacitor breakdown or wiring error
Controlar: Power modules, busbar insulation, cable insulation damage, secuencia de fases
✅ Fuse blows during startup (no-load normal, blows when loaded)
Startup surge current exceeds fuse pulse withstand capability
Abnormal soft-start circuit or failed pre-charge circuit; excessive I²t inrush at power-on
Inter-turn short in motor winding or cable earth leakage on load side
✅ Fuse blows gradually after period of operation (not instant blast)
- Temperatura ambiente alta & poor cabinet heat dissipation: Fuse derated; FWP current carrying capacity drops sharply inside hot cabinets
- Poor contact at holder with accumulated continuous heating, leading to gradual aging and melting of fuse element
- Long-term cyclic pulsed load with repeated I²t cumulative fatigue (high-frequency converters, frequent PWM start-stop)
- Insufficient margin in selection; steady-state current runs close to 25A rated value continuously
✅ Random intermittent nuisance blowing with seemingly normal load current
Mechanical vibration: Fuse loosens inside holder with intermittent arcing and heating
Aged fuse: Fuse subjected to multiple current surges drifts in characteristic and loses I²t capability
Counterfeit/refurbished fuses with non-compliant I²t parameters
4) Instalación & Selection Review Items
- Confirm it is aR semiconductor protection fuse. Ordinary gG/gL distribution fuses cannot be used as replacement
- Striker Fa version: DC circuit limited to 500Vdc. Use FWP-25A22F (no striker) if DC voltage exceeds 500Vdc
- Par de apriete: Follow holder manual. Too loose or too tight torque may crack ceramic tube
- Microswitch loop inspection: Stuck striker causes alarm failure, which may result in secondary damage to power devices without timely shutdown
5) Pre-power-on Inspection After Fuse Replacement
- Clean oxidation and carbon deposits on holder before fitting new fuse. Replace aged fuse holder if necessary
- Recheck no short-circuit on power devices and bus capacitors
- No-load trial run, monitor temperature rise and current. Confirm normal before applying load
- Test striker alarm loop: Simulate striker action manually to verify PLC fault signal upload correctly

⚠️ Replacement Precautions
- Verify pre-arcing I²t and total clearing I²t before substitution. Excessively high I²t fails to protect IGBT; too low I²t causes frequent nuisance tripping
- DC voltage derating also applies to striker variants, maximum 500Vdc
- For imported or high-reliability projects, conduct small batch prototype comparison on temperature rise & breaking performance before mass replacement

- Protection Characteristic Key Points
- aR characteristic: Primarily fast current-limiting short-circuit protection, not suitable for long-time overload protection. Minor overload will not trigger rapid melting; only heavy short-circuit current provides ultra-fast current limiting to reduce IGBT let-through energy
- Independent striker operation: Striker actuates only after element melts; no striker action under minor overload
- Time-current curve: Very steep, microsecond-level fast current limiting during short-circuit, different from gG/gL distribution fuses
- Escenarios de aplicación típicos
DC bus of frequency converters, rectifier power supplies, arrancadores suaves, energy storage converters PCS, inversores fotovoltaicos, short-circuit protection for thyristor/IGBT power modules.
VII. Critical Usage Restrictions (High Priority)
- Striker Fa variant shall not be used in DC circuits above 500Vdc. Use FWP-25A22F (no striker) for DC voltage exceeding 500Vdc
- Replacement with ordinary gG/gL distribution fuses is strictly prohibited. Too large I²t leads to delayed melting and IGBT breakdown during short circuit
- Striker is only for fault alarm signal, not as main circuit breaking device
- Mounting tightening torque must follow holder manual. Poor terminal contact and overheating cause premature nuisance blowing
