3-Wire Wiring Definition

Domestic alternative: Domestic E-profile PNP magnetic sensor with parameters DC5-30V, 200 mA, E-section profile.

Interchangeable: DMSE-P020 ↔ DMSE-P030 differ only in cable length.

AIRTAC DMSE-PNP (DMSE-P020) Installation

Direct-mount type: Fits E-shaped slot of SE / SAE cylinders; no extra bracket required, clip directly into the side E-groove of cylinder barrel.

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure

  1. Loosen set screw: Use small flat-blade screwdriver to turn the set screw on sensor head counter-clockwise (do not remove it completely).
  2. Slide into groove: Insert DMSE sensor from the end of the E-shaped side groove on SE/SAE cylinder barrel. Keep flat bottom surface of sensor tight against groove base.

⚠️ Only for SE, SAE cylinders with E-slot. Not applicable for SC/SDA or other slot-profile cylinders.

  1. Position adjustment: Manually move cylinder piston, slide magnetic sensor to desired detection position (signal triggers when piston magnet ring passes this position).
  2. Tighten and fix: Fasten the head set screw

Recommended torque: 0.15-0.20 N·m, maximum ≤0.25 N·m. Excessive torque will crack plastic housing.

Important: Screw tip must NOT protrude from sensor bottom surface; otherwise it will jam and scratch cylinder groove.

  1. Verification test: Manually cycle cylinder piston to confirm reliable signal triggering. Re-adjust screw if position needs fine-tuning.

Installation for Cylinders without E-slot

If your cylinder is non-SE/SAE without E-shaped groove:

DMSE has no universal hoop bracket and cannot be fitted directly. Select magnetic sensors with corresponding profile (DMSG / DMSJ / DMSH) and use dedicated mounting brackets.

Wiring (3-wire PNP)

Brown: DC24 V+

Blue: 0 V / GND

Black: PNP signal output (connect to PLC sinking-type input point)

Key Installation Notes

  1. Cylinder must be equipped with built-in magnet ring, otherwise magnetic sensor cannot detect signal.
  2. Prevent cable from following cylinder reciprocating movement; reserve cable slack. Minimum bending radius ≥19 mm to avoid cable fatigue fracture.
  3. Keep away from strong magnetic fields (solenoid coils, welding equipment etc.) to avoid false triggering.
  4. Do not use sensor as mechanical stop. Cylinder shall be equipped with built-in buffer; forbid piston impact onto sensor.
  5. Retighten screws periodically. Equipment vibration may cause position shift.

Quick Troubleshooting

No output signal: ① Verify cylinder has magnet ring; ② Check whether sensor aligns with piston magnet ring; ③ Over-torque causing housing deformation; ④ Reversed power-supply wiring.

False triggering: Strong surrounding magnetic interference; too-small spacing between two magnetic sensors.

AIRTAC DMSE-PNP (DMSE-P020) Output Characteristics

Level Logic

When cylinder magnet ring is detected: Signal wire (black) outputs high-level voltage nearly equal to supply DC24 V.

No magnet detected: Signal wire is high-impedance state (no output).

Wiring

  1. Brown: DC24 V positive
  2. Blue: DC0 V negative
  3. Black: PNP signal output terminal

PNP sourcing output: Sensor sources 24 V voltage outward.

❗Caution: Cannot connect directly to PLC sourcing-type input, signal will not be recognized.

Load Connection Methods

  1. Connect to PLC sinking-type input: Black wire connects to PLC input channel; PLC common COM terminal connects to 24 V-. When magnet is detected, input channel receives 24 V and PLC turns ON.
  2. Connect to relay coil: One end of relay coil connects to black signal wire; the other end connects to 0 V. Relay energizes upon magnet detection.

Common Misunderstandings

  1. DMSE-Pxx: PNP sourcing output; DMSE-Nxx: NPN sinking output.
  2. This is electronic sensor, not dry-contact relay. It requires DC power supply; cannot be used as passive switch.
  3. Without piston magnet ring, no signal will be generated regardless of wiring.

Simple memory rule: PNP outputs high-level voltage; NPN pulls signal down to 0 V.

AIRTAC DMSE-PNP (DMSE-P020) Material Specification

Stainless steel flat-head machine screw, for locking sensor into cylinder E-slot.

  1. Internal Construction

Magnetic sensing components + PCB circuit board, epoxy resin potting. Circuit is fully sealed inside plastic housing to achieve dust-proof and water-proof performance.

DMS is electronic type, no reed-switch glass tube. (CMS series adopts reed-switch glass tube).

Version Differentiation

  1. Standard DMSE-P020: PBT housing + PVC high-flex cable, IP64, blue cable retainer.
  2. Oil-resistant waterproof DMSE-P020-W: PBT housing + oil-resistant cable, yellow retainer ring, IP68, suitable for cutting-fluid and splash-water environments.

Material-Related Usage Precautions

  1. PBT housing shall avoid immersion in strong acid, strong alkali and strong solvents.
  2. PVC cable shall avoid contact with strong organic solvents, otherwise accelerated aging and cracking will occur.
  3. Plastic housing shall not suffer hard-object impact or knocking.
