Complete Installation Instructions for Schneider LUB12 (TeSys U Power Base)

  1. Two Primary Fixing Methods

Méthode 1: Standard TH35 DIN Rail Clip Mounting (Most Common in Cabinets)

LUB12 is equipped with spring latches on the rear, compatible avec 35 mm standard electrical TH35-7.5 DIN rail

  1. Hook the upper latch onto the top edge of DIN rail;
  2. Press the bottom of the device downwards until an audible click confirms bottom latch engagement;
  3. Pull the device manually to verify secure installation.

Removal: Use a flat screwdriver to pry down the bottom release tab, then lift upwards to detach.

Méthode 2: Screw Plate Mounting (Cabinets without DIN rail)

Mounting holes are reserved on the housing for direct screw fixing on metal backplates;

Suitable for non-standard enclosures and renovation projects without DIN rails.

  1. Mandatory Installation Orientation Rules

✅ Recommended: Vertical upright mounting (front facing operator, terminals top & bas)

Upper terminals: L1/L2/L3 3-phase power supply incoming

Lower terminals: T1/T2/T3 motor outgoing

Natural downward airflow for heat dissipation, complying with original design.

⚠️ Allowable tilt angle: ≤±30° forward/side tilt;

❌ Horizontal mounting & upside-down installation are forbidden, which impairs heat dissipation and causes inaccurate thermal protection.

  1. Plug-in Procedure for LUC Control Unit (Top Module)

LUB12 is merely a base; LUC series control unit is required for operation

  1. Complete LUB12 base fixing; install control unit before wiring;
  2. Align LUC unit with the upper guide slot of the base and push vertically downward;
  3. Confirm audible latch engagement and no loose movement;
  4. If communication modules (LULC) or auxiliary contact modules are required, plug them into the right-side expansion slot of the base.

Removal of LUC unit: Press the front release buckle and pull upward directly, no need to disconnect power cables (major modular maintenance advantage).

  1. Spécification de câblage & Torque Requirements
CircuitTerminal LocationCouple de serrageCâble approprié
Main power circuit L1/L2/L3, T1/T2/T3Supérieur & lower power terminals1.9~2.5 N·m1~10 mm² solid cable / 1~6 mm² flexible cable (ferrule terminal recommended)
Contrôle / auxiliary circuit terminalsSide terminals0.8~1.2 N·m0.75~1.5 mm² cable

⚠️ Strict prohibition of reversed wiring: Power at top, motor cable at bottom; do not swap inlet and outlet.

  1. Cabinet Heat Dissipation & Layout Clearance
  2. Side-by-side installation of multiple LUB12: Zero clearance between adjacent units is permitted;
  3. Vertical stacked installation: Maintain ≥50 mm ventilation gap between upper and lower devices;
  4. Avoid mounting directly adjacent to heat-generating components such as contactors and inverters;
  5. Maximum ambient temperature: -25 ~ +70 ℃ with LUCA/LUCB/LUCC/LUCD; maximum +60 ℃ with LUCM.
  6. Common Installation Pitfalls & Taboos
  7. ❌ Do not install LUB12 base without LUC control unit — device cannot close contacts;
  8. ❌ Do not insert LUC unit obliquely or forcibly, to avoid bending internal pin connectors;
  9. ❌ Do not over-tighten terminals (risk of thread slipping & housing cracking); insufficient torque causes overheating and terminal burnout;
  10. ❌ Extension modules can only be fitted on the right side; no expansion interface on the left;
  11. ❌ Avoid direct installation under heavy vibration; vibration damping measures are required if necessary;
  12. ✅ Reserve sufficient front operating space for the padlockable isolating rotary handle to prevent cabinet door interference.

Installation Precautions for Schneider LUB12 (TeSys U Power Base)

  1. Mechanical Installation Requirements
  2. Installation Attitude Restriction (Hard Rule)

Montage standard: Vertical upright, main terminals arranged top to bottom, power cable on top, motor cable on bottom.

Permitted inclination: forward/side tilt ≤±30°;

❌ Horizontal and upside-down mounting prohibited, resulting in poor heat dissipation, false thermal tripping and shortened service life.

  1. Exigences de correction

Montage sur rail DIN: Securely clip onto standard TH35 rail, pas d'oscillation; release with flat screwdriver when removing.

Montage par vis: Use reserved mounting holes; do not drill extra holes to damage housing.

  1. Cabinet Spacing & Dissipation thermique

Horizontal side-by-side mounting: No gap required between units;

Vertical stacked layout: Reserve ≥50 mm vertical ventilation space;

Keep away from high heat components such as inverters and power resistors; ensure ambient temperature within rated range.

  1. Operating Space Reservation

The front isolator rotary handle supports padlocking; reserve enough front clearance to avoid cabinet door blocking rotation and lockout operation.

  1. Environnement vibratoire

Vibration damping measures are recommended for equipment mounted on vibrating machinery, preventing loose terminals and module disengagement.

  1. Module Assembly Guidelines

LUB12 works only when matched with LUC control unit

  1. Slide LUC control unit vertically along guide track and push until audible lock; avoid angled or forced pressing to prevent pin damage.
  2. Modules de communication (LULC) and auxiliary contact expansion modules can only be installed on the right expansion slot; no interface on left side.
  3. Disconnect upstream power supply before plugging/unplugging LUC unit for maintenance; press front latch and lift upward; no need to remove power cables.
  4. Never plug/unplug LUC unit under live condition, which will damage internal circuits.
  5. Wiring and Torque Rules (High Failure Risk Area)
CircuitCouple de serrageSpécification du câble
Main terminals L1/L2/L3, T1/T2/T31.9~2.5 N·m1~10 mm² solid wire; 1~6 mm² flexible wire (ferrule terminal strongly recommended for flexible cable)
Side auxiliary / control terminals0.8~1.2 N·m0.75~1.5 mm² conductor

⚠️ Critical Wiring Restrictions

  1. Main circuit rule: Power enters top terminals, motor connects bottom terminals; power and motor cables must not be reversed!
  2. Bare flexible wires without cable ferrules easily cause strand scattering and short circuit;
  3. Insufficient torque → overheating and terminal burnout; excessive torque → thread slipping and plastic housing cracking;
  4. No exposed copper strands after wiring to prevent phase-to-phase short circuit; maintain IP20 protection degree.
  5. Environnemental & Electrical Requirements
  6. Operating environment: No explosive atmosphere, gaz corrosif, and continuous condensation;

LUCA/LUCB/LUCC/LUCD: -25 ℃ ~ +70 ℃

LUCM economy type: -25 ℃ ~ +60 ℃

  1. Derating is required when operating altitude exceeds 2000 m.
  2. Verify coordination between upstream protective devices and short-circuit breaking capacity of LUB12.
  3. Ensure reliable earthing of control cabinet and motor complying with grounding regulations.
  4. Sécurité & Commissioning Taboos
  5. ❌ LUB12 base cannot operate without fitted LUC control unit; motor cannot start.
  6. ❌ LUB12 is non-reversing base, not applicable for forward/reverse motor control; select LUB12R for reversing duty.
  7. ❌ Do not open housing or touch live internal parts under energized state.
  8. Check before closing: Set overload protection current of control unit according to motor rated current on nameplate.
  9. The front rotary handle provides isolation function; turn to OFF position for maintenance and apply lockout/tagout.
  10. Stockage & Transport

Keep dry during storage before installation; avoid long-term sunlight and humidity. Do not lift the device by gripping LUC control unit to prevent module detachment and damage.

Compatible Motors for Schneider LUB12 (TeSys U Power Base)

Conclusion fondamentale

LUB12 has no restrictions on motor brands! Compatibility depends only on electrical parameters and motor type, regardless of manufacturer.

It is merely a switching base for three-phase AC circuits. Any brand of three-phase AC asynchronous motor can be applied if all conditions below are satisfied.

  1. Moteurs applicables (Brand Independent)

✅ Compatible Motor Brands (All Supported)

Domestique: Wannan Motor, Baude Motor, Jiamusi Motor, Lijiu Motor, Wolong Motor, Dazhong Motor;

Importé: Siemens, ABB, COUDRE, Flender, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Hitachi three-phase asynchronous motors;

Schneider original motors are also fully compatible. There is no binding requirement to use Schneider motors only.

✅ Mandatory Electrical Conditions (All Must Be Met)

  1. Type de moteur: Three-phase squirrel-cage asynchronous motor (direct-on-line mains start)
  2. Alimentation: CA 50/60 Hz, operating voltage ≤690 V
  3. Courant nominal du moteur: ≤12 A (maximum. compatible motor 5.5 kW @400 V)

Note: Rated allowable current derates to 9 A under 690 Système V.

  1. Operating condition: Unidirectional non-reversing operation (LUB12 non-reversing base; select LUB12R for forward/reverse control).
  2. Mode de contrôle: Direct en ligne (DOL) mains starting.
  3. Inapplicable / Restricted Motor Types

❌ Forbidden for Direct Driving

  1. Permanent magnet synchronous motor: Normally driven by inverter; overload protection characteristics of LUC unit do not match permanent magnet motors, and cannot start directly from mains.
  2. Wound rotor asynchronous motor (rotor resistance speed regulation type): Protection logic mismatch.
  3. Single-phase motor, DC motor.
  4. Servo motor, inverter-duty motor: Controlled by inverter output; LUB12 cannot be connected on inverter output side.

⚠️ Important Reminder: Inverter-duty motor can only use LUB12 on the power input side as an isolator. LUB12 is strictly prohibited on inverter output terminals! High-frequency PWM voltage will damage contacts and control unit.

  1. Key Configuration Points for Cross-Brand Motor Application
  2. LUC control unit must be matched; LUB12 base cannot work independently.
  3. Accurately set overload protection current of LUC unit according to rated current printed on motor nameplate.
  4. For motors with high starting inrush current (compresseurs d'air, high-pressure pumps), prefer LUCB/LUCC advanced control units with phase loss and phase unbalance protection.
  5. When replacing motors of different brands, only readjust the LUC current setting; no replacement of the base required.
  6. Common Misconception Clarification
  7. ❌ Myth: Schneider motor starters can only be matched with Schneider motors

✅ Correction: TeSys U is a universal IEC standard motor starter. It is widely used with domestic and other foreign-brand motors in industry; no brand lock-in.

  1. ❌ Myth: Motors with power close to 5.5 kW are always suitable

✅ Correction: Priority reference: courant nominal. Some multi-pole and special motors have higher current at the same power rating and cannot be used if exceeding 12 UN.
